Varkauden Puu Oy is a Finnish family-owned company with over 45 years of expertise in wood processing. We specialize in the production of high-quality planed wood products, with our main focus on profiled wooden mouldings and decorative interior panels. These products are widely used in construction, interior design, crafts, and woodworking.
Founded in 1978, the company has grown from a small family business into an international player employing around 50 professionals. Today, Varkauden Puu is known for its quality products, reliability, and customer-oriented approach.
Our founder, Timo Tenhunen, is recognized not only as an experienced professional in the wood industry but also as an active volleyball influencer. The values of volleyball – teamwork, discipline, fair play, and continuous improvement – are strongly reflected in the way Varkauden Puu operates. We believe that the best results come from passion and collaboration, whether on the court or on the production line.
A Story of Growth and Development
In the early years, our production focused on custom wood planing services for private customers, local building projects, and small specialty orders. Much of the work was done by hand during long working days and evenings. This laid the foundation for the company’s growth.
In the 1990s, we took a major step forward by starting exports to Germany, which opened the doors to European markets. With this expansion came new demands for production quality and efficiency – challenges we met with determination.
In the early 2000s, in collaboration with Weinig, we developed an innovative planing saw capable of profiling mouldings in three layers simultaneously. This technology revolutionized our production efficiency and reinforced our position as a leading manufacturer of planed wood.
Flexible and Responsible Production
Today, our production is equipped with six modern Weinig planers featuring advanced hydro-technology. Our in-house tool manufacturing ensures fast and precise production of custom profiles exactly to our customers’ specifications.
We process certified raw materials into over 20 million linear meters of mouldings annually. All by-products are utilized responsibly. Offcuts are finger-jointed into new blanks, later machined into mouldings and profiles especially for painted products. Wood shavings are baled into animal bedding and chips are sold as renewable heating material.
Export Expertise and Customer Focus
Approximately 95% of our production is exported to Austria, the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands, with the rest serving the Finnish market. Our customers include:
